Okay...If you know what you’re doing, and just want to know what the default password is, it’s “password”. (Case matters.)
Prophylaxis is a system extension that forces the user to enter a password whenever the Mac is turned on. It is not difficult for a knowledgeable Mac user to bypass Prophylaxis, but it provides enough protection to prevent the casual user from messing with your Mac while you aren’t there. If anyone would be interested in a version of Prophylaxis that provides more protection, drop me a line at one of the addresses at the end of this file. If I get enough requests, I will add a “More security” option in a future version. The reason I didn’t include this option in this version is because Prophylaxis was designed to provide fast & easy protection for anyone who just wants to block out users who may accidentally mess up your machine. To install Prophylaxis, simply drop it into your “System Folder” and select “Restart” from the “Special” menu. When your computer asks you for your password, type “password” (Case matters, and don’t press return.) Click on “Change Password”. Type the password you want to use, and then return. From then on, whenever you start up your Mac, you must enter the password and press return. To change the password, enter it without pressing return and click on “Change Password”. Type your new password, and then press return. It sounds confusing, but it’s all really pretty easy once you get the hang of it.
If, for some reason, you forget your password, you can hold down shift while your Mac is starting up, therefore bypassing Prophylaxis. Doing this is not a good practice in general, however, because no extensions will be loaded at all. After bypassing Prophylaxis, you should replace it with a fresh copy.
